Session 1- Elevate Nonfiction in the School Library
Date: Wednesday, November 4, 2025 from 9:00 to 10:30 am
Location: Online Event
In this session we’ll examine how nonfiction can be used creatively in schools to create dynamic displays, shake up your book talks and inspire readers to branch out.
Chelsea Baker (CQSB)
Chelsea Baker is the librarian at the Central Quebec School Board. She has had many opportunities to weed book collections over her 20+ year career in public, academic, and school libraries. Chelsea is committed to helping schools in her board build and maintain engaging and relevant collections that support all learners. Her favourite book genres are historical fiction, picture books, and non-fiction. The most recent book she read (as of January 2026) was about marine archaeology targeted towards 10-14 year olds. She also loves sending and receiving postcards, cuddling with her cat, and being outside on a snowy day.
Erin Millar (WQSB)
Erin Millar is a librarian at the Western Quebec School Board. Erin splits her time between managing her own secondary school library in Gatineau, Quebec, and traveling to and supporting several elementary and secondary school libraries across the WQSB territory. Erin is passionate about creating lifelong learners, readers, and critical thinkers, and is a wholehearted advocate for social justice. In her personal time, Erin can be found surrounded by multiple art and craftivism projects, all guided by the long held personal truths that there is learning in everything, play is essential, and there is no such thing as too much glitter.
Lili Sun (ESSB)
Lili Sun is the Librarian based at the new Baie-des-Chaleurs Regional School at the Eastern Shores School Board, a small school board known for its strong sense of community. She is passionate about working with students, teachers, and staff to promote literacy, foster a love of reading, and support lifelong learning. Traveling to schools throughout ESSB, she collaborates with educators to provide services and support learning.
